Securing Your Wallet
1. Encrypt your wallet by going to the Settings menu and selecting Encrypt Wallet. Make sure to choose a long password that you are sure you can remember. If you lose or forget your password, you cannot reset it- you will lose your coins forever! Encrypting your wallet protects you against some basic coin-stealing malware (although malware with a keylogger can still steal your coins, so make sure to run up-to-date anti-virus software!), but it also protects the backup you will make in the next step.
2. Back up your wallet! The private keys needed to spend your Knavecoins are stored on your hard disk. If you lose these keys, you cannot spend or prove ownership of your coins- the coins will be lost forever! Creating a backup will protect against hard drive failure. You must store the backup file in a safe place. Using a USB drive is recommended, as only you control it, but you can also email it to yourself or upload it to a cloud storage website such as dropbox.com if you are concerned about losing a USB drive. Once you have decided on a backup location, go to the File menu in the wallet and select Backup Wallet, then choose where you want to save the backup file. Copy the backup file to the USB disk, or upload it to a cloud storage website.
3. Make regular backups! For technical reasons, you should back up no less frequently than every 100 transactions you send- failing to do this will mean that your backup will not be able to restore all of your coins! Repeat step 7 as frequently as possible.
4.Congratulations- your wallet is secure!
5. You can check all the movements of Knavecoins via the Block Explorer which is like an open ledger, recording all the movements between various wallets.
